Honor the glory of Gay Street while humbly acknowledging its challenges
with pedestrian gestures of hope and cheer.

Old Town Wandering explores East Baltimore’s ever-redeveloping Gay Street as it exists in a state of disinvested limbo. Featuring empty signifiers, a market void, formstone facades and the original dollar homes along Sterling Street, this walk captures a complicated history of Baltimore’s stalled attempts at urban revival as seen from perspectives of small business merchants concerned with unfulfilled promises of revival.

This tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and proceeds at a moderate pace.
